Recently some friends of mine have banded together to create the Thin Edge New Music Collective, an innovative chamber music ensemble with shifting personnel. On April 6th they’re presenting a concert which includes some of my work, a violin duo called “A Timid Statement” from 2004. Here’s a recording of the track from a reading by Jeremy Bell and Jerzy Kaplanek of the Penderecki String Quartet
The rest of the bill is quite varied, spanning canonized contemporary composers John Cage, Tōru Takemitsu, John Adams, and Benjamin Britten; understated Toronto veteran (and one of my mentors) Linda Catlin Smith; dutch composer Roderik De Man and emerging Canadian composer Aura Giles.
The programme is quite diverse, and will also feature me as a DJ between sets and after the concert (at which point you should expect to dance!).
Be sure to keep an eye on their events page for future events including an upcoming tour of five premieres written for the ensemble by myself and other emerging Canadian composers, Margaret Ashburner, Aura Giles, Tova Kardonne, August Murphy-King.
Here are the details for April 6th, 2012.
